It’s reasonable to expect that the company’s other watches may eventually follow suit. However, this is the first time Samsung is pulling the plug completely on older wearables. So far, there’s no news of Samsung ending support for the Gear S2 or Gear S3 smartwatches.
For example, the Gear S will continue to support the current Galaxy S20 series, but next year’s Galaxy S21 won’t work with the aging ( and truly odd) smartwatch. These products will continue to work on older Samsung smartphones, though. Galax圜lub reports that Samsung will stop supporting five of its older smartwatches and fitness trackers starting in 2021, specifically with the company’s new smartphones. Now, though, Samsung is pulling support on some of its older smartwatches including the Gear S starting in 2021

Internal specs for a smartwatch aren't as important as they are with smartphones, as the operating system and apps are much less power intensive. The Gear S3 display was brilliant, so Samsung didn't really need to improve here. We haven't seen them yet, but we can assume both will be brilliant displays. The Gear S3 was covered in Corning® Gorilla Glass SR+ glass, while the Galaxy Watch uses (we guess) slightly improved Corning Gorilla® DX+ glass.Īnd the 42mm version of the Galaxy Watch features a 1.2-inch display with the same spec and resolution as the larger one.
